A New Kind of Wilderness Hero is Taking a Stand
The forests are stirring. Not with just wind and birdcall—but with footprints. Big ones.
As a growing movement rallies to protect U.S. public lands from unprecedented sell-offs, a few new voices have emerged from the trees. Some with shaggy fur, some with mossy antlers, and at least one with a backpack full of honey wrappers and a beanie that’s definitely seen better days.
Introducing Yomp the Bigfoot and his crew—Grizzle the Bear, Petyl the Bunny, Boulder the Mountain Goat, and more—forest-dwelling adventurers who aren’t just characters in a story. They’re defenders of the trails, rivers, and ridgelines we all love. And they’re stepping up to fight what we’re calling the Big Beautiful Land Grab.
🏕️ Who Are These Wildlings?
These characters first started as creative sketches for a coloring book project. But as the threats to public lands became harder to ignore, they found their true purpose.
- Yomp the Bigfoot is big-footed, big-hearted, and never quite sure what’s going on—but he’ll trip over a log to protect your favorite trail.
- Grizzle the Bear growls like thunder and hugs like a tank. He’s got one bandaged paw and a belt full of snacks—both earned from chasing honey and hope.
- Petyl the Bunny twirls through wildflowers and leads with softness and strength. She organizes trail gear by color… and leads dance revolutions under moonlight.
- Boulder the Mountain Goat charges cliffs with wild eyes and a red pack bouncing behind. He thinks gravity is optional and every ridge is a ramp to destiny.
Each of them is part of a growing world I’ve been building—equal parts outdoor adventure, cozy fantasy, and urgent conservation message.
🌲 Why Fictional Characters Are Getting Real
Our public lands are facing a very real threat: a proposed Senate bill that would open up millions of acres of lands to private sale. The details are complex, but the stakes are simple:
- Fewer trails for hiking, fishing, camping, and photography.
- Less habitat for wildlife and reduced access to wild spaces.
- More luxury development, fewer affordable housing solutions.
- Less transparency in how public resources are sold.
Yomp and friends don’t just explore these lands—they live in them. And now they’re becoming the voice of the wilderness in a time it needs all the allies it can get.
🐾 What to Expect Next
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be releasing a series of short videos, scenes, and illustrations introducing each character in more depth. Some will be funny. Some will be heartwarming. All will center on one goal: reminding us why these places matter.
You’ll meet:
- Boulder the Mountain Goat leaping over legal loopholes
- Hoof the Bison laying down wisdom like stone slabs
- Azalea the Deer weaving words and flower crowns into calls to action
They’re wild, weird, and 100% committed to keeping the wild wild.
🌎 Join the Movement (and the Madness)
If you love the outdoors—if you’ve ever found peace under a pine canopy, joy in spotting a fox, or awe while climbing switchbacks—this is your fight too.
And maybe, just maybe, it’s time to let some fictional forest dwellers help lead the charge.
👉 Share their stories. Follow their adventures. And most importantly, take action to protect the lands they (and we) call home.
