How this site earns money
Henricks Outdoors is free to read and play. It's paid for in three ways:
- Affiliate links to products in our guides.
- The owner's books, listed on the Books page.
- Photo prints from the owner's photography.
Affiliate links
Some links to products, most often in our guides, are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the seller may pay us a small commission. The price you pay is the same either way.
The affiliate programs we're part of today:
[Owner: list each affiliate program that's active today. Guides currently link to Amazon through amzn.to short links. If the Amazon Associates program is active, its required statement must appear here word for word; check the current wording in the Amazon Associates Operating Agreement (it has read "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.").]
On pages made for kids, every shopping link first asks a grown-up to check ("Ask a grown-up: this opens Amazon").
The owner's books
The Books page lists books written by the site's owner, sold through Amazon. When you buy one, the owner earns money from the sale. [Owner: confirm whether the book links are also affiliate links.]
Photo prints
Many photos on this site are the owner's own. Where a photo offers a print, the link goes to that exact print on Pursue Life Outdoors, the owner's photography site. Buying a print supports the owner directly.
The Henricks family of sites
These sites belong to the same owner as Henricks Outdoors. A link to one of them is a link to our own work, not an outside recommendation:
- 511Now: Fire, weather, traffic, and cameras from official public sources for Washington, Oregon, and Idaho
- A to Z Outdoors: Trip-planning and packing tool covering 47 wilderness activities (formerly the Smart Packing App)
- Watch The Outdoors: Curated guide to the best outdoor video, browsable by terrain and season
- TerraGreetings: Nature-inspired greeting cards — old-growth forests, alpine meadows, PNW wildlife
- Pursue Life Outdoors: Jeremy Henricks' landscape and nature photography
- Henricks Media: Websites, content, and digital strategy for growing businesses
How gear picks are chosen
When we name gear in a guide, we pick it because we think it's a good fit for the trip or task the guide covers, not because a link pays. Whether a product has an affiliate link never decides whether it's recommended, and we don't accept payment to include a product.
[Owner: confirm how gear picks are chosen today (for example, gear you've used yourself, or researched from reviews and specs) and that no product has been paid to appear, before this goes live.]
